Consultation process

Over 150 people with a learning disability have been engaged in developing the key themes and proposal included in the strategy. In addition carers and parents have been engaged, enlisting the help of advocate organisations such as CLASP, SEND Voices Wokingham and Wokingham MENCAP.

There’s been engagement with Addington School, which educates children and young people with special needs, to get the views of parents, governors and their staff.

Face to face and telephone support with online surveys aimed at residents with a learning disability, their carers and the staff who support them. Surveys now completed and results analysed.

Engagement with adult social care and NHS managers, GPs and with frontline nursing and social work staff.

Reference Number: WBC1097

Reason For Consideration: To ensure that the Council meets its obligations under The Care Act 2014 which sets out the statutory framework for providing support to people with disabilities and long term illnesses who need care to manage their basic daily living needs.
