Active and Completed e-Petitions

An e-Petition is a petition which collects signatures online. This allows petitions and supporting information to be made available to a potentially much wider audience than a traditional paper based petition.

Anyone who lives, works or studies in the area can submit or sign an e-Petition.

E-Petitions are part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to listening to and acting on the views of the public. Further informtation on the Council’s Petition scheme can be found in the Council’s constitution Chapter 3.5

Guidance for an e-Petition

To support an existing e-Petition choose an e-Petition and add your name, address and email address.

An e-Petition can relate to any issue on which the Council has powers or duties or on which it has shared delivery responsibilities through a partnership arrangement.

In order for an e-petition to be accepted it will require a minimum number of signatories, 10 for matters relating to one ward, or 50 for matters relating to more than one ward.

If the number of signatories reaches more than 1,500 this will trigger a debate at the next available Council meeting.

An e-petition can be run at the same time as a paper petition, by combining the two before submitting them to the Council. However once a person has been a signatory in one format they cannot sign it in another.
