Protecting Chalfont Woods

We the undersigned petition Wokingham Borough Council to 'We the undersigned call on Wokingham Borough Council to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that Chalfont Woods (also known as Area DD) will be protected by legally binding agreements forever from building development and remain as a natural green space for all future generations.'

At the 18th July Council meeting Cllr Parry Batth acknowledged the importance of this green space to local residents and said he had persuaded the Executive to ‘hold this site’ as a new Council-wide housing strategy is considered. However, critically, Cllr. Batth did not commit that future development of the site will not occur and said that this could take ‘… any form, such as leisure, retail or housing’. He stated ‘… it is not possible for me to say what future decision may or may not be made by members of any future administration.’
There is a simple, effective and permanent solution - residents request that WBC enter into a legally binding commitment that will protect Chalfont Woods forever. Precedents exist in Earley, with, for instance, Meadow Park and Sol Joel Park, protected as Fields in Trust.
